George Cooper, Partner, McInnes Cooper

George is a Partner in the Halifax office of McInnes Cooper. He has been practicing corporate and commercial law since 1967, except for a “timeout” in 1979 when he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Halifax and served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice.

An accomplished lawyer and Rhodes Scholar, George has been a community leader in Halifax for many years. His credentials speak for themselves: George is a Managing Trustee of the Killam Educational Trusts; Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Governors of the University of King's College; former Member of the President's Advisory Committee of the Royal Society of Canada (the Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences of Canada); Nova Scotia Chair of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council; Board Member for the Pier 21 Foundation; and a former Trustee of the Foundation for Legal Research and a Trustee of the Foundation for the Study of Processes of Government in Canada (sponsor of the Forum for Young Canadians). As well, he is a member of the Order of Canada, and an Officer - First Class Royal Order of the Polar Star.

George is inspired by the Salvation Army’s work, and he’s ready to make great things happen for the Stocking Stuffer Election. Giving back to our communities? Now that’s swift justice!
